URGENT - DISTEMPER - PLEASE HELP US
A few years ago I made this post http://pvre-morning.tumblr.com/post/74286750110/this-is-going-to-be-really-hard-to-write-so-please asking for help when Sally had a serious gland infection and had to have two surgeries. I thought I’d never have to resort to this again, hoping she’d live the rest of her life happy and healthy, to make up for all the suffering in the past: being abandoned, losing a leg, being mistreated, living on the streets and the shelter, losing all hope. That was not the case.
Sally is now an older dog (vets estimate around 10) and was diagnosed with distemper back in November. She started showing signs of having something wrong with her eyes, and was taken to the hospital where they ran tests and realized she had an extremely high white blood cell count and high fever. After debating whether or not such an old and vaccinated dog could have distemper, they decided to test her and a week later the result came in. Positive. They did a PCR test with very conclusive results. Since then, the vet visits have been continuous. Recurrent blood tests, a multitude of different pills (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, hepatic protectors, stomach protectors) and eye drops (antibiotic, lubricant) because her most visible symptom is inability to open her eyes, they are incredibly dry and very sunken onto her skull, it’s scary to look at. She lost so much weight you can see her skull. From being a fatty 30 kg dog, she became an emaciated 20 kg dog despite all our efforts, which was brutal. She is slowly gaining the weight back but her bones are still protruding. Fortunately she does not show any respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms, but she almost never gets up (she has always been high-energy) and cannot open her eyes. Keeps getting fevers and having to be back on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Neurological symptoms can appear at any time. Having only 3 legs, if she gets serious leg spasms she might easily lose the ability to walk.

(some of the medication she takes, has already taken a lot more and has to keep adapting the medication to her symptoms)
Until now we spent more than 700 euros in vet bills, medication and transport. We cannot continue to help her without aid. As I stated in the linked post above, both me and my mother are chronically ill which already puts an incredible strain in our financial situation, my mother is now waiting to have surgery and can barely walk, my health declined heavily in 2016. We are not considered “ill enough” to have any kind of welfare.
We need help. We don’t know what to do anymore. She deserves a happy life, not more suffering. We are doing all we can.
If you can donate 1 euro/dollar/etc or share this with whom you think can donate, I thank you with all my heart. I wish I did not have to resort to this, but I will do whatever it takes for her.
